Searching for Alaska School Records
Notice
Most of the records are copies of transcripts and diplomas. Alaska school districts keep originals, so requests for transcripts should be submitted to them first. For current information on active public schools, go to the Alaska Dept. of Education and Early Development's Public Schools Database.
At the State Archives
The State Archives holds a small amount of student transcripts, correspondence course grades and student files of a few defunct schools in Alaska. They comprise records from 1918 to present and generally fill in gaps in school districts’ official files. The material includes:
- School district annual reports. Part B 1918-1971
- 7th and 8th grade reports 1918-1951
- High school transcripts 1938-1970
- Correspondence courses taken from the University of Nebraska 1939-1954
- Covenant High School transcripts 1954-1985
- Adak Region School District Student Records, 1970 - 1996
- Alyeska Central School transcripts 1960-2007
- 1986-1990 incomplete records
- Alaska International Academy student files 1973-1974
Access to personal information in these files is restricted under law. The Alaska State Archives is only able to provide copies of transcripts it has received from the Department of Education & Early Development or the institution that created the documents.
